"SPOTLIGHT THEME" months: April in Zen

As of April, every few months DWB will be having a "spotlight theme", focusing on a tradition or particular aspect of practice for that month. For April we will be looking at the Soto Zen tradition which will include a history of the lineage, particularly of its founder Dogen Zenji, as well as some of the traditions main practices such as Zazen, the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts and Shikantaza ("just sitting").

As a taster, here is a translation of the Four Vows of a Bodhisattva as presented from this rich and profound Mahayana tradition:

"Beings are numberless, I vow to free them
Delusions are inexhaustible, I vow to end them
Dharma gates are boundless, I vow to enter them
The Buddha way is unsurpassable, I vow to realise it"
